Different languages are not just different sets of words that can be translated one by one. They are different “thinking systems”, using different metaphors and expressions to get meaning across.

When you learn a new language it’s easy to initially forget this.

The Chinese are famous for the many funny expressions in English, and some humorous examples of that will be posted on this site.

But each of those “English slip-ups” reveals a precious bit of Chinese grammar. And think of it, how do you think we, Westerners sound when we (try to) say something in Mandarin?
